Chroma's vision is to develop globally leading products as a world-class enterprise. To sustain as a world-class enterprise, Chroma nurtures its brand as one of innovation, continuous improvement, and globalization ensuring its leading technology and integration capabilities in optics, mechanics, electronics, thermal control and software provide competitive advantages and future growth for the company. Chroma has branch offices in Europe, the United States, Japan, mainland China and South East Asia chartered to deliver innovative technologies with high value-added service to satisfy our global customers' demands. If all this is done, a uniform, world-wide measurement system has been established. The process to establish and maintain this system is the main task of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the National Metrology Institutes (NMIs). In the broad context, metrology also include Industrial metrology systems for inspection and quality control and Legal metrology for that part of metrology relating to activities which result from statutory requirements (for example where the protection of consumers are regulated by law). Traceability is most often obtained by calibration, establishing the relation between the indication of a measuring instrument and the value of a measurement standard (the NMS). These standards can either be primary (Established through a realisation of the unit and the traceability is to the NMI) or secondary, where an artefact calibrated against a primary standard at another NMI is maintained as the NMS (and the traceability is to the NMI with the primary standard). The NMISA provides calibration, measurement, and analytical services to its customers. We do run proficiency testing schemes for calibration and testing laboratories under contract. Reference Measurements: The NMISA maintains a number of reference measurements in a number of parameters through which the NMS is disseminated. Since most analytical instrumentation is comparative, it requires a sample of known composition (reference material) for accurate calibration. These CRMs typically are produced under stringent manufacturing procedures and differ from laboratory reagents in their certification and the traceability of the data provided. Accredited laboratories are required to use CRMs to ensure traceability of their results. The highest order CRMs are usually produced and certified by a primary method and under the jurisdiction of a national metrology body.
